Typical ladies competition wear

Leilani asked me tonight about what she should wear for the Charlotte DanceSport Challenge. It'll be her first competition as well as the first competition for a lot of other dancers. So... I thought it might be a good idea to post a few pictures of what is typical for girls to wear at collegiate competitions.

For Latin/Rhythm dances:

For Standard / Smooth dances:

Some competitions have strict costuming rules. CDC is not one of those competition since it is a unsanctioned collegiate competition. So you can wear pretty much whatever you want at CDC. Many other competitions are sanctioned by USA Dance (such as Regionals and the Triangle Open), and at those competitions you are required to follow the costuming guidelines given in the USA Dance rulebook.

The USA DanceSport Rulebook can be downloaded from the National Website at: http://www.usabda.org/dancesport_competitors/index.cfm

This newest version is really clear and precise. Though the ladies costuming violations are more pronounced, the men usually are the ones that slaughter the rules.

Remember, in syllabus, neatness is a judges choice, as opposed to flashy.
